Advent Social Media Ideas for Churches: Christmas Post and Reel Ideas for Christian Creators

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
— Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

Every December the same thing happens. Feeds fill up with sales, gift guides and "holiday vibes," and somewhere in all the noise the actual Christmas story gets a little quieter. If you run a church's Instagram, post faith content on TikTok, or just want your own page to point to Jesus this season, you have a beautiful opportunity: the whole world is already talking about Christmas. You simply get to tell them Whose birthday it is.

Advent 2026 begins on Sunday, 29 November, which means now is the perfect time to plan. Below you'll find simple Advent and Christmas post ideas, reel ideas and caption starters for churches and Christian creators, plus a gentle plan that won't leave you exhausted by the 24th.

Plan Your Advent Content Around Four Simple Weeks

The easiest way to stay consistent is to give each week one theme. Many churches walk through Advent with four themes, one for each Sunday, and you can borrow that rhythm for your feed:

  • Week 1 (from 29 Nov): Hope. God kept His promise of a Saviour. Post prophecy verses like Isaiah 9:6 and short "waiting" reflections.
  • Week 2 (from 6 Dec): Peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Speak to the anxious and the busy.
  • Week 3 (from 13 Dec): Joy. The angels' good news. Share testimonies, worship clips and answered prayers.
  • Week 4 (from 20 Dec): Love. "For God so loved the world" (John 3:16). Point gently toward the cross and the invitation of the Gospel.

With a theme for each week, you never have to wake up wondering what to post. You just ask, "How can I show hope (or peace, or joy, or love) today?"

Takeaway: Write the four themes on a sticky note or in your content calendar now, and batch-plan one week at a time.

Advent Post Ideas for Instagram, TikTok and Shorts

You don't need a film crew. Most of these ideas can be made with a phone, a candle and a Bible:

  1. Light the Advent candle. A 15-second clip of the week's candle being lit, with the theme word and one verse on screen.
  2. A verse a day. Count down to Christmas with one KJV verse each day, from the prophets to the manger.
  3. "Why we celebrate." A short talking video: "Christmas isn't about being perfect. It's about a Saviour who came for imperfect people."
  4. Name of Jesus series. Take each name in Isaiah 9:6 (Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace) and give it its own post.
  5. Behind the scenes. Show your church decorating, the choir rehearsing or volunteers packing gifts. People love seeing the family behind the feed.
  6. Quiet-moment reel. Soft worship music, falling snow or candlelight, and a single line: "Emmanuel. God with us." (Matthew 1:23)
  7. Invite post. A clear, warm invitation to your Christmas services with the date, time and a "bring a friend" line.
  8. Christmas for the lonely. Not everyone loves December. A gentle post reminding the grieving and lonely that Jesus came near to them too.

Let the Good News Be the Centre

When the angel appeared to the shepherds, the very first Christmas announcement went like this:

"Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10–11)

The first Christmas post was good news "to all people." Ours can be too.

Notice the order: "fear not" came first, then the good news. That's a wonderful pattern for Christian content. Before you share anything, ask whether it will leave someone more afraid or more at peace. Our job isn't to scold the world for forgetting Christmas. It's to remind them, with joy, that a Saviour has been born for them.

A few caption starters you can adapt:

  • "Before the lights and the gifts, there was a promise. And God kept it."
  • "He didn't come for the perfect. He came for you."
  • "This Christmas, you're not alone. Emmanuel means God with us."
  • "Good tidings of great joy, for all people. Yes, that includes you."

Takeaway: End at least one post a week with a simple invitation, such as "Want to know Jesus personally? Send us a message."

Post Consistently Without Burning Out This December

December is a busy month for church teams and creators alike, and it's easy to give everything to the feed and nothing to your own soul. Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). The light shines best when it's fed.

  • Batch in one sitting. Film four candle clips and write a week of captions in a single afternoon.
  • Use ready-made content. Pre-made verse reels like our 25 Days of Advent Christmas Verse Reels give you one reel for every day from 1 December to Christmas, so you can spend your energy on people instead of editing.
  • Schedule, then step away. Queue your posts and take time to worship, rest and be with family.

A Prayer for Christian Creators This Advent

Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to us, Emmanuel, God with us. As we share Your story this Christmas, keep our hearts close to Yours. Let every post, reel and caption point people to You, not to us. Give us creativity, joy and rest. Help us speak with grace to the weary, the lonely and the searching. May someone meet You this season through what we share. In Your name, Amen.

Do you know Jesus personally? ✝️

The greatest gift of Christmas is for you too: God loves you, right where you are. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). You don't have to clean yourself up first. Jesus already paid for every sin on the cross and rose again.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9).

If you want to receive Him today, you can pray something like this:

"Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, that You died for my sins and rose again. I receive Your forgiveness and Your love. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for making me Yours. Amen."

If you prayed that, welcome to the family of God! 🎉 Tell a Christian friend or a local church, start reading the Gospel of John, and take your next step with How to Know Jesus Deeply: 7 Simple Ways to Grow Closer to Him.
