Hope That Anchors Your Soul: Joseph Prince Sermon on Hope in the Waiting

Hope That Anchors Your Soul: Joseph Prince Sermon on Hope in the Waiting

"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil."
— Hebrews 6:19 (KJV)

Have you ever prayed for something so long that you quietly stopped expecting an answer? Maybe it's a healing that hasn't come yet, a prodigal child, a job, a marriage, or simply a season that feels like it will never turn. You still believe in God. But hope? Hope can feel like a word for other people.

If that's you today, this week's Sermon Spotlight is for you. In Hope That Anchors Your Soul, a full sermon shared free on the official Joseph Prince YouTube channel, Pastor Joseph Prince points weary hearts back to the hope God gives, a hope that holds even when the answer is delayed. Grab a coffee, press play, and let Jesus steady your heart.

About This Sermon

According to the chapter list in the official video description, Pastor Prince walks through several encouraging themes: that your Father in heaven hears you when you keep asking, that God has sworn to bless you, that He wants you to always have hope, why you can keep hoping even in delays, and how Bible hope differs from the world's idea of hope. He also closes with an invitation to receive Jesus.

Below are a few Scripture reflections on those same themes to help you take the message into your week. They're our own notes from the King James Bible, not a transcript of the sermon, so do watch the full message to hear Pastor Prince teach it himself.

1. Your Father Hears You, So Keep Asking

Jesus never told us to stop asking. He said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you" (Matthew 7:7). And then He showed us the heart behind the promise: "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matthew 7:11).

Notice the word Jesus uses: Father. You aren't knocking on the door of a reluctant judge. You're talking to a Father who loves you, who already gave His Son for you, and who delights to give good things. Asking again isn't nagging God. It's a child staying close to a good Dad.

Try this: write down the three things you're trusting God for right now. Then, under each one, write one promise from Scripture. If you'd like a gentle daily guide for this, 31 Days of Trusting God walks you through a few quiet minutes with Him each day, especially in seasons of waiting and worry.

2. God Has Sworn to Bless You

Hebrews 6 tells us something amazing. When God made His promise to Abraham, He didn't just say it. He backed it with an oath, and because there was no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself (Hebrews 6:13). Why would God do that? So that we would never have to wonder whether He means it:

"Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil" (Hebrews 6:17–19).

Save this verse card for the days when hope feels far away.

If you are in Christ, you are an heir of that promise. Your hope isn't anchored in your feelings, your performance, or how strong your faith felt this morning. It is anchored "within the veil", in the very presence of God, where Jesus our forerunner has already entered for us (Hebrews 6:20). The anchor holds because of who is holding it.

Takeaway: when doubt whispers, "What if God doesn't come through?", answer it with Hebrews 6:18. It is impossible for God to lie.

3. Hope When the Answer Is Delayed

Delays are hard. But a delay is not a denial. God told the prophet Habakkuk, "For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:3).

The world's idea of hope sounds like "I hope it works out", a nervous maybe. Bible hope is different. It is a confident expectation of good, resting on God's character. "And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us" (Romans 5:5). Biblical hope will never leave you embarrassed, because it is rooted in a love that has already been proven at the cross.

If you're in a long night right now, you may find comfort in How to Find Hope When You Feel Hopeless: God's New Mercies. His mercies are new every morning, including tomorrow morning.

Practical steps for the waiting season:

  • Start each day by thanking Jesus for one thing He has already done.
  • Speak one promise out loud, such as Hebrews 6:19 or Romans 15:13.
  • Let a trusted friend or church family pray with you. You weren't made to wait alone.
  • Keep watching for small graces. They are signs that the anchor is holding.

A Prayer for Anchored Hope

Father, thank You that You hear me. Thank You that You swore by Yourself to bless me, and that it is impossible for You to lie. I bring You the things I've been waiting for, and I choose to rest in Your love instead of my worry. Lord Jesus, You are my anchor within the veil. Hold my heart steady when the answer seems slow. Fill me with joy and peace in believing, that I may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Do you know Jesus personally? ✝️

Whatever you're still waiting for, God loves you right where you are. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). You don't have to clean yourself up first. Jesus already paid for every sin on the cross and rose again.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9).

If you want to receive Him today, you can pray something like this:

"Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, that You died for my sins and rose again. I receive Your forgiveness and Your love. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Thank You for making me Yours. Amen."
